Prabhash Mondol, a prime accused in the brutal gangrape and murder of an 11-year-old girl in West Bengal’s Baruipur, was shot dead in a police encounter after midnight. The incident occurred when a specialized team of police officers escorted Mondol to the designated crime scene late at night. The operation was intended to conduct a standard step-by-step reconstruction of the criminal events surrounding the case as part of the ongoing investigation.
According to an official statement released by the police department, the situation turned violent once the team arrived at the crime scene. Investigators stated that Mondol suddenly overpowered an officer and snatched his service firearm. In an immediate bid to escape from custody, the accused fired one round directly at the accompanying police personnel, forcing the team to take defensive action.
In response to the direct threat, the police team opened fire in retaliation, injuring Mondol on the spot. Law enforcement officials immediately neutralized the situation and shifted the injured accused to a nearby hospital for emergency medical care. Upon arrival, medical professionals examined Mondol and officially declared him dead.
